Orliss William Tanner - Inter-Mountain, The - (Aug/7/2008)
Orliss William Tanner, 90, of Mineral Wells, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, in Holbrooks on the Hill in Buckhannon.
He was born in Roane County on Sept. 8, 1917, the son of the late Orville M. Tanner and Flora Matheny Tanner.
In 1946, he married Ovia Nestor Tanner, who preceded him in death in July 1986.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Ira John Tanner; and two sisters, Gwendolyn M. Kidder and Madolyn Bennett.
Surviving are four nieces, Loretta Corathers and husband, Mac, of Buckhannon, Ellen Tanner and husband, Robert Story, of Newton, Ala., Flora B. Kelley and husband, Garland, of Helvetia and Kathy DeVillarc of Springboro, Ohio; and two nephews, John Tanner and wife, Lois, of French Creek and Jack Tanner and wife, June, of Morgantown.
Mr. Tanner was raised in Roane County. He worked for Virginia Sand and Gravel of Virginia for many years. He returned to Mineral Wells after his retirement. He was a member of the South Parkersburg Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, in the Beechtown Cemetery with Pastor Beryl McKisic officiating. Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel of Buckhannon is in charge of the arrangements for Orliss William Tanner. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblyn.com.
