Two soldiers, S/Sgt. Bradford C. Rhodes, and Pvt. Paul E. Fischer, are returning home after serving in the Mediterranean theatre of war for some time. Rhodes lives at Belgrove and saw seven months of service overseas. Fischer lives at Sandyville and has been on the Italian front for six months.
Bradford Carl Rhodes
Bradford Carl Rhodes, 90, of Ripley passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Jackson General Hospital.
He was born April 4, 1919, in Belgrove, a son to the late Thomas and Mary Casto Rhodes. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corps. He was a construction worker and farmer and was a member of the West Ripley Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary Jones Rhodes.
He is survived by his son, Mark Rhodes (Jeanie) of Evadale, TX; daughters, Brenda Simmons (David) of Ripley, and Lois Traylor (Stan) of Wheeling; grandchildren, Miranda, Jacob, Charles, Lucianna, and William Rhodes, Davida Drake, Katrina Meadows, Cody Simmons, Brittany Simmons, Lucus Simmons, Jeremy Traylor, Gene Traylor, and Rachelle Campbell; great-grandchildren, Olivia Drake, Maxwell Meadows, Elijah and Brody Campbell, Lilly and Ana Traylor; brothers, Eugene Rhodes, and Ronald Rhodes; sister, Hazel Raines; along with many other loving friends and family.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Pastor Jack Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at the funeral home
