Iva E. Whited Rader
Iva Emmazetta Whited Rader, 92, formerly of Elizabeth, W.Va., entered into eternal rest at 1:20 a.m. Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Valentine Personal Care in Elkins, W.Va.
She was born Saturday, June 10, 1916, in Roane County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Nester A. and Lela N. Boyer Whited.
On Saturday, Nov. 26, 1936, she married the love of her life, Arthur L. Rader, who preceded her in death in 1976.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Larry L. Rader in 2004; one brother, Ray Whited; one sister, Ruth Whited Marks; and several nephews and nieces.
She moved to Wirt County, W.Va., as a young child and lived there most of her life. Iva was a custodian at Wirt County High School from 1962 until 1982. She enjoyed her job and loved being around the students. Earlier in life, she was employed by American Visco.
She joined the Elizabeth Baptist Church on April 14, 1976. Iva was a devout Christian. She was active in Wirt County Band Boosters, both as a parent and grandparent. She was a member of Wirt County Homemakers and Wirt Chapter 113 O.E.S. She represented Wirt County as the Belle at the W.Va. Folk Festival in 1993. She enjoyed bunco, going on long drives in the country and spending time with family and friends. She loved going to old time music festivals with her family.
Iva's survivors include her sister, Phyllis Whited Short of Austin, Texas; daughter-in-law, Babs Wright of Chinle, Ariz.; granddaughter, Lisa A. Smith and husband, Damon; three great-grandsons, Zachary, Nathaniel and Zane Smith; sister-in-law, Carolyn Sims Rader, all of Elizabeth, W.Va.; stepgranddaughter, Jenna Holmes; and stepgrandson, Mason Holmes.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Elizabeth Baptist Church, Elizabeth, W.Va., with the Rev. Mark McCloy officiating.
Arrangements for Iva Emmazetta Whited Rader have been entrusted to The Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
