Full Obituary: Della Huffman Wolfe, 90, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2010 in Charleston Hospice Care Home, The Hubbard House. She was born in Spencer, WV, January 6, 1920 and moved to Charleston in 1942 where she spent her whole life. Della was a member of Starcher Baptist Church in North Charleston. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Boyd and Mary Huffman, 4 sisters, three brothers, and her husband of 64 years Carl I. Wolfe. She is survived by her sister and her husband, Elsie and Jim Martin. Della was greatly loved by her son and his wife, Larry and Nancy Jo Wolfe of Charleston and her daughters, Marsha Wolfe Todd and her husband the late Bernard L. Todd of Scott Depot and Barbara L. Wolfe of Charleston. Della was very close to her three grandchildren and their families Heather Sanders and Dannie Jenkins of Hurricane, Melanie and Matt Cooke of Arlington, Massachusetts, and Dr. Michael Wolfe, currently practicing in New Zealand. She has two great grandchildren, Sophie and Inman Cooke, who referred to her as their little grandma. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and her extended family Joe and Teresa Wolfe and their children. Della and Carl made a wonderful home always open to their children, grandchildren, and friends. Della loved her family and loved being a mother and grandmother. Most of her family and friends lovingly called her Nan. She owned several English Saddlebred horses which her daughter Barb and her granddaughter Heather enjoyed showing. Della loved her trainer John Scott of Burning Springs Farms, Hurricane, and he and Miss Della developed a great friendship throughout the years. She also enjoyed traveling the horse show circuit with Willie, Bea, and Powers Smith where she made so many wonderful friends. Della had a great love for animals and she will be sadly missed by her pets and grand pets Goldie, Jack, Oscar, Toby Jo, Spike, and Church, Loula, Honey, Stewie, and Salem were waiting for her in Heaven. As Dellas family we would like to ask that you join us in the celebration of her long and wonderful life. We would like to thank Hospice and their many home health care workers, doctors, and nurses for the special care they gave her. In this, we would ask that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd, W, Charleston, WV 25312, or to the Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311. Friends may call at the chapel one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
