BERTHEL S. STARCHER
Berthel S. (Buck) Starcher, 71, of Mt. Zion, died Sunday, Nov 1, 1998, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, following a long illness.
He was born at Printer, Boone County, the son of the late Albert and Della Gibson Starcher. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, former employee of Mohawk Rubber Co., Akron, Ohio, and retired inspector of W.Va. Dept of Highways. He was a former Cub Scout Master of Pack #436 and was an active supporter of Calhoun County band and athletic programs.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth M. Starcher; five sons, Alan Starcher of Kent, Ohio, Rodney and Wesley Starcher, both of Akron, and Eric and Jeffrey Starcher, both of Mt. Zion; two stepsons, Danny Carpenter of Mt. Zion and Tim Carpenter of Creston; and three brothers, Bruce Starcher of Madison, Boyd Starcher of Seth and Bob Starcher of Mt. Zion.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Atkinson; one brother, Bethel Starcher; and one step-son, Mike Carpenter.
Services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mt. Zion. Visitation was scheduled 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, and one hour prior to the services.
