One such message came to Mrs. George W. Johnson, of Ripley, in which the parents were told that their eldest son, Pfc. Charles Johnson, had given his life for his country on March 11. The message indicated that the young man died of the effects of wounds at an Army hospital in France. He was the second grandson of Mrs. Mary McGraw, of Ripley, to be added to the list of war fatalities within the past few weeks, the other being William Boggess. (Friday, Mar 30, 1945)
