Garfield R. Watson Sr., 84, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2005, at Jackson General Hospital.
He was born March 1, 1921, at Lex, W.Va., the son of the late Perry Franklin and Martha A. Davis Watson. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Medical Corp. He was a retired minister in the Nazarene Church, a retired coal miner, and also worked at the Heartland Nursing Home.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Southall Watson; a son, Garfield R. Watson Jr. of North Carolina; a daughter, Tammy Kay Houchins of Arnoldsburg; a stepson, Ricky Koon of Ripley; a sister, Virginia Toombs of Charleston; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Wanda Southall. He is also survived by six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at the Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, at the funeral home.
