    • David Robert Hopkins, 63, of Elizabeth, died April 27 in the Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

      He was born in Creston, son of the late Jonathan D. and Melissa Headley Hopkins. He was a member of the Big Island Run United Methodist Church, was retired from the state Department of Highways, was a World War II Army veteran, member of the Wirt County Senior Citizens and a charter member of the Wirt County Volunteer Fire Department.

      He is survived by his wife, Gladys Hall Hopkins; three sons, David Eugene of Washington, Jerry of Elizabeth and Kenneth of Parkersburg; three daughters, Martha Slusher of Elizabeth, Carolyn Longwell of Warren, Ohio and Patty Bain of Sandyville; a foster daughter, Judy Brooks of Cairo; two brothers, Jonathan of Grantsville and William of Santa Clara, Calif.; a sister, Ola Monroe of Elizabeth and 12 grandchildren.

      The funeral will be at 2 p.m. April 30 at the Matheny-Pomroy Funeral Home Chapel of Elizabeth, with the Rev. Gladson Grim officiating, with burial in the Elizabeth K of P Cemetery.
