ZANESVILLE -- Stanley C. McKean, 86, of Zanesville, went to be with God and his angels Friday, March 4, 2005, at his residence.
He was born June 9, 1918, the son of late Charles and Norah Porter McKean on the family farm in Clay Township, Gallia County.
Stanley graduated in 1934 from Gallipolis High School. After graduating from Rio Grande College in 1936, he taught in one-room school houses in Gallia and Columbiana Counties from 1936 to 1940, after which he worked at the Ohio Hospital for Epileptics in Gallipolis.
Stanley went into the U.S. Army Signal at Camp Crowder, Missouri and was stationed in the Alaskan Theater on Adak Island in the Aleutians until 1946. In 1949, Stanley graduated from Marshall College with a B.S. in Arts and Sciences and went onto the University of Cincinnati as a pre-med student.
He worked at Battelle Institute, Columbus; Altman Hospital, Canton; and Bethesda Hospital, Zanesville; Clay City Beverage and Muskingum County, Zanesville, before retiring from Orient State Hospital, Columbus in 1980. Mr. McKean was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Amity, 5 F & AM.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Dana and Mary Lou McKean and grandson Tyler McKean of Duncan Falls.
Brothers and sisters, Jewell Caldwell, John McKean, Rhoda Briggs and Juanita Saunders of Gallipolis and Lucielle Haggerty of Middleport.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta (Richardson) McKean (May 22, 1991), brothers and sisters, Porter McKean, Marcus McKean, Rita Sheets all of Gallipolis.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2005, at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, with the Rev. Scott Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.
