Evelyn Elizabeth Durst Smith
Evelyn Elizabeth Durst Smith, 81, of Mt. Alto, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, after a long illness at Pleasant Valley Hospital, with her loving family and friends at her side.
She was born Oct. 19, 1929 in Mason County, a daughter of the late Hershel W. and Ruth Barnett Durst.
She had been employed by Gerlach Sewing Factory, Yonkers Sewing Factory and the Sylvania Plant, all of Point Pleasant, and attended the Gospel Lighthouse Church on Chestnut Ridge Road. She was baptized on July 5, 2010 at the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church in Hartford by Rev. Randy Parsons
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Edward W. Smith whom she marred August 9, 1951; daughter, Connie Sue Smith; brothers, Herbie Durst and Clyde Durst of Leon, Ralph Durst of Letart Falls, Ohio, Kenneth Durst of Springfield, Ohio, Floyd Durst of Millwood, and William Durst of Crooksville, Ohio; and sisters, Ella Ellie Knapp and Winnie Durst of Letart, and Ruth and (Bird) Runyon of Springfield, Ohio.
She is survived by her daughters, Charlotte and (James) Denney of Letart, Lana Smith of Mt. Alto; son, Charles Edward Eddie and (Laura) Smith of Letart; grandchildren, Jim and (Rachel) Denney of Letart, and Kent Edward Smith and Charles Andrew and (Barbara) Smith, both of Mt. Alto; three step grandchildren, Jessica Burdette, Brandon Helton and Amara Helton; great grandson, Trestan Earl Denney; great granddaughter, Leia Smith; great step grandson, Elijah Hall; sisters, Edna Doll Huber of Springfield, Ohio, Emma Shirley of Leon; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Roanoak Cemetery on Chestnut Ridge Road in Mt. Alto. Burial will follow. There will be no visitation.
