Dessie Radcliff
Dessie Frye Radcliff, 90, of Parkersburg went to be with the Lord on her birthday, June 20, 2007.
She was born in Clarksburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Ethel Berta and John Frye. She graduated from Wahama High School, Mason County, W.Va. She was employed at the Viscose plant in Parkersburg for 10 years. She was then employed at the Parkersburg Sentinel for 13 years, where she was a teletype operator, belonging to the International Typographic Union. Dessie volunteered Christian writing in the editorial department, editing sermons on behalf of the Parkersburg Ministerial Alliance for 12 years. She retired from the Sentinel in 1976.
She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church for 60 plus years, where she served on the Board of Deaconesses for 29 years and taught Sunday School. Dessie was also active in the Parkersburg Baptist Association, serving as a delegate at many conventions. She was a Billy Graham Crusade Counselor.
Dessie was a member of the American Red Cross and a pastoral care volunteer at St. Joseph?s Hospital for years.
She is survived by her two sons, Thomas E. Radcliff and wife, Brenda, and Michael R. Radcliff and wife, Kelly, all of Parkersburg; daughter, Rosalee Kuhl and husband, Ken, of Mineral Wells; three stepchildren, Dale Radcliff and wife, Edith, of Parkersburg, Bill Radcliff and wife, Carol, of Vienna and Donna Sams of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren, Robert Radcliff, Robin Radcliff, Rebecca Hanna, Rus Radcliff, Laura Radcliff and Ryan Radcliff; several great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Offit Radcliff; two sisters, Velma Roush and Marie Weaver; two brothers, John Jr. and Raymond Frey; and one stepdaughter, Betty Carpenter.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at The Broadway Baptist Church with the Rev. Phil Newhart and the Rev. Joe Busch officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
