Vesta Mullins Salisbury
Vesta Mullins Salisbury of Ghent passed away June 21, 2008, at a local nursing home. She was 99 years old. She was born at Glen on Oct. 18, 1908. Her father was Jackson Mullins and her mother was Virginia Belle Sizemore (Woody) Mullins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Estel L. Salisbury; an infant daughter; and a son, John William Salisbury.
She also was preceded in death by brothers, Clayton Mullins, Henry Mullins, Stanton Woody and Esten Mullins; and sisters, Dessie Evans, Belvie Ratliff and Mamie Smith.
She is survived by daughters, Mabel (William L. Pursel), June Dudzik; son, Stephen Salisbury; and brothers, Thordon Mullins and Sidney Mullins; sister-in-law, Esther Mullins. She also is survived by nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Ms. Salisbury was affectionately known as Todie. She was a bible-toting, God-fearing pioneer type of woman. She loved to garden and to be close to nature. She was honest and fearless and she could shoot a ground hog dead from 60 yards away caught nibbling in her garden (that's a moving ground hog.)
Friends will be received from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Saturday followed by funeral service at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home at Shady Spring with services to begin at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Phillip Farrington officiating. Graveside rites and interment will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Tyler Mountain Memorial Gardens in Cross Lanes where she will be laid at rest next to her husband.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice or the Ghent Fire Department.
