The Rev. Christopher W. Randolph, 73, of Ripley, W.Va., died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at Jackson General Hospital in Jackson County, W.Va.
Born April 24, 1931, Chris "Buck" was the son of the late Albert and Roxie Odell Perry Randolph.
During the Korean Conflict, Chris honorably served his country as a Staff Sergeant E-5 Army Combat Medic in the Medical Company 45th Infantry Division, 179th Infantry Regiment, Elite Special Combat Medics. During his service, Chris was awarded the Bronze Star with V Device, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal - Bronze Star Attachment, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with three Battle Stars, the Republic of South Korea Presidential Unit Citation and the South Korea Presidential Unit Citation Combat Medics Badge.
After returning from Korea in 1953, Chris remained a lifelong resident of Jackson County. For a number of years, Chris owned the ESSO Gas Station in Ripley, worked in the gas fields and in 1991, he retired from Ravenswood Aluminum.
Chris also served as the pastor of Mount Hope United Methodist Church, Copper Fork Methodist Church, Mount Zion Methodist Church and Centennial Community Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Scarberry Randolph; and three sisters, Francis Ashby, Belva Jean Reed and Virginia Casto.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Stephens Randolph; his son, Christopher W. "Randy" Randolph II and wife, Rita, of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter, Karen Lanham and husband, Doyle of Ripley, W.Va.; stepson, David Harpold of Cross Lanes; brothers, Alvie Randolph and wife, Virginia, and Junior Randolph and wife, Genvive, all of Ripley; two sisters, Joyce Lockwood and husband, Joe, of Kansas, and Lucy Randolph of Ripley. Chris also is survived by seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley with the Rev. Bernard "Bud" McVay officiating. He will be laid to rest at Fairplain Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at the funeral home.
