Arnold A. Boggess, 91, of Hurricane died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, after a short illness. He was a native of Jackson County and a 59-year resident of Hurricane. Arnold was a retired heavy equipment (bulldozer) operator, a 54-year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 132, and a charter member of VFW Post 9097. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving his country with the 709th Tank Battalion Company C throughout Europe as a tank driver. Preceding him in death were his wife of 50 years, Grace (Casto) Boggess; his parents, Addie and Lessie (Koontz) Boggess; and brothers, Willard, John, Hillard, Elbin and Laco Boggess. He is survived by daughters, Rebecca Simmons of Orange Park, Fla, and Sarah Lee McCallister of Hurricane; son, Christopher Boggess of Fort Wayne, Ind.; brothers, Windell Boggess of Rochester, Pa, and Freeman Boggess of Ripley; sisters, Mary Kellar of South Charleston and Ida Mae Moore of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, March 25, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of your choice.
