    • Virginia Balis, 91, of Sandyville, W.Va., departed this life to be with her Lord on May 26, 2010, at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley.

      She was born on Nov. 7, 1918, the 15th child of the late Grant and Ida Mae Palmer. She was a member of the Sandyville Church of Christ. She enjoyed sewing and had made several quilts throughout the years, with one winning best of fair at the Jackson County Junior Fair. She always enjoyed raising a garden with canning and freezing the fruits of her labor. She had a green thumb where house plants and her yard were concerned with many beautiful flowers adorning her yard.

      She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 72 years, Church E. Balis; her brothers, Ray, Roy, Forrest, Sutton, Joe, Harry, Elzie, Lindsey and Lysander, and sisters, Anna, Hazel, Pauline, Zora, and Flossie.

      She is survived by one sister, Louise Hutchinson of Sandyville, as well as her three children; sons, Robert (Charlene) and John (Sue) of Sandyville; daughter, Dee (Bill) Lee of Chattanooga, Tenn.; her grandchildren, Pam (Jim) Lewis, Jason (Karen) Balis, and R.J. Balis of Sandyville; Robin (Gary) Sheppard of Elizabeth, Jill (Steve) Cooke of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Kevin (Tina) Lee of Birchwood, Tenn., and Kyle (Shannon) Lee of Spruce Pine, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Jessica (Chad) Spears, Megan and Mallory Ohse, Kate and Zane Balis all of Sandyville, Jonathan and Kelsey Triplett of Elizabeth,, Robin and Krista Lee of Birchwood, Tenn.,

      Lydia, Grace, Paul, and Faith Cooke of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; stepgreat-grandchildren, Christopher, Joshua and Adam Lewis of Parkersburg, and Tyler Sheppard of Elizabeth, and great-great-grandchildren, Hunter and Cara Spears.

      Visitation will be held at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, on Friday, May 28, 2010, from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 29, 1 p.m. at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with Minister Rodney Nulph officiating. Burial will follow in Independence Cemetery, Sandyville.
