      Richard "Bo" Landis, 78, of Ripley, passed away at his home on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, surrounded by his loving family following a long illness.

      He was born Aug. 18, 1931, at Kentuck, a son of the late Ola and Lessie Walker Landis. "Bo" graduated from Ripley High School with the Class of 1950, retired from Pechiney Aluminum with 35 years of service and was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church since 1963. He was a member of the Kentuck Baseball Team in the Old Jackson County League.

      He had a deep love for children and coached Little League baseball and football, was involved with local schools PTO and Ripley High School Athletic and Band Boosters. He was a former member of the Ripley Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 5668. "Bo" was very involved behind the scenes with the Main Street Ripley Program, a program that is recognized as one of the top Main Street Programs in the State. He was formerly on the Board of Directors with Greenhills Country Club and loved to play golf with his son and grandsons whenever he could, and enjoyed many golf trips with his special friends from Greenhills.

      He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Monnie Parsons Landis; a son, Terry and his wife, Chris, of Ripley; a daughter, Marsha Humphrey and her husband, Alan, of Ripley; a brother, Neil Landis; sisters, Juanita Skeen, Wilda Scarbrough and her husband, Dale, and Wanda Phalem; grandchildren, Tabby Craddock and her husband, Shawn, Lt. Mathew Hill and his wife, Katrina, Justin Landis and his wife, Amaris, Jared Landis and Tyler Geyer; great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Griffin Craddock and Scylah and Kora Hill; sister-in-law, Eurada Landis; and two special family members, Melvin "Butch" Hill and Alvin "Sparky" Geyer.

      The family would like to acknowledge his special caregivers, Gladys Mascaro, Trena Nelson, Elizabeth Rhodes and Margaret Randolph and the special people of Hospice for the love and attention to "Bo" and the entire family.

      In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kemp Landis and Willard Landis.

      Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Ripley, with the Rev. Charles Hicks officiating. Burial will be in the Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
