Mable L. Hopkins - Charleston Daily Mail - (Sep/25/2005)
Mable L. Hopkins, 81, of Foster, W.Va., died Friday, September 23, 2005, after a long illness.
She was born October 16, 1923, at Danville, W.Va., and was preceded in death her parents, Walter and Bertha Roberts Scott; her husband, Omer G. Hopkins Sr.; sons, Larry Richard Hopkins and Omer G. Hopkins Jr.; daughter, Judith Lambert; and grandsons, Danny Richard Hopkins and Timothy Lambert.
She was a nurse, with 45 years of service, working at the Madison General Hospital, private practice for Dr. O. D. MacCallum and Dr. P. Chinuntdet and Shawnee Hills. She had a love for God, family, work and community. As a dedicated Christian and nurse, she helped bring babies into the world, helped administer comfort and care to the ill, and sit at the bedside of the terminally ill. Day or night, family, friend or stranger could call and she would help.
She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Carolyn Sue and Bob Gobble of Foster, W.Va., and Sharon Jean and Danny Spratt of Madison, W.Va.; sister, Margaret Coleman of Leon, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren, Todd Hopkins of Anderson, S.C., George Hopkins, Tracy Hughes, Dawn Blade of Taylor, Mich., Penny Hopkins of Odd, W.Va., Jason Gobble of Frederick, Md., Julie Gobble of Charleston, Jeremy Gobble of Foster, W.Va., Melissa Spratt and Shelley Brinegar of Madison, W.Va.; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Rock Creek Church of Christ.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, September 26, at Stevens Funeral Home, Madison, W.Va., with Ministers Louis Watts and Ray Beadnell officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Low Gap, W.Va.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, September 25, at the funeral home.
