John House: Pioneers of Jackson County:
P'd Tommy Tolley lived in 1840 with his daughter, Widow Adams, widow of Phil Adams, on the Carder place on Joe's Run.
There was a Tolley from Rockbridge, whose wife crossed the ocean in seven days and nights. She knit seven pairs of stockings.
pg 184: Settlers on Joe's Run
A man named Adams is said to have lived there at a comparatively early date. he was the father of Andy Adams, who was in the hardware trade with John McIntosh, and in 1840, the house was occupied by Adam's wife and her father, familiarly spoken of as Old Tommy Tolley.
Bedford Co:
Jul. 31, 1798; Thomas Tolley & Lucy Jones, dau/ Nicolis and Susanna; James Kay, Surety; Married by James Turner, Aug. 2, 1798.
From Angela Ruley:
Christopher and Patience Tolley settled in the Arnold's Valley region of Rockbridge county before 1778. He obtained land grants in that region which had been originally designated to Samuel Arnold for who the valley takes its name.
Yes, Lucinda was the daughter of Thomas Tolley and Lucy Jones. She was the sister of Patience Tolley who married Christopher J Rhodes. Also sister of Elizabeth who married William L Tolley and Also sister of Mary Tolley who married Philip Adams and sister of William Tolley who married Elizabeth Hill and sister of Susannah who married Henry Buckley.. Does that help?
