Zita Maria Nunez, age 70, beloved mother, grandmother, mentor and best friend, passed away July 15, 2017 from a rapidly progressing illness. She was born September 28, 1946 in Akron, Ohio to Robert and Mary Elizabeth (Garnes) Nunez. Zita was the youngest of nine children.
After graduating from high school, she went on to join the United States Air Force and served until she had her first son, George. After many trials and tribulations, and much moving around, her position at Reynolds and Reynolds brought her to the Dayton area in 1988. Zita worked for Reynolds and Reynolds for seventeen years, where she was a highly respected manager who had the opportunity to make many dear friends across the country. Later, she went on to work at Hazco for seven years, and finally she retired from Lexus Nexus at age 62 ½.
Zita loved the years that she spent in Dayton, surrounded by her closest loved ones. She enjoyed playing golf with her friends, baking delicious treats for her family, and doing arts and crafts projects with her grandchildren, inspiring creativity in them. She was a caretaker and a teacher to many over the years, impacting so many lives. She cherished the moments that she could spend sitting on her front porch watching the birds, sipping a good cup of coffee and feeling the breeze on her face.
Zita was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Mary Elizabeth Nunez, her sister and brother-in-law,Elvira and James Elliot, and her half- brother and sis-in-law, Sonny and Eloise Pedro. She is survived by her sons George Nunez and Bobby Shaub, and their wives, Amy and Anita; her grandchildren, Alicia Maria and husband, Pedro Lozano, Loren Alexandra, Zachariah Allan-Chaffe, and Jared Elijah; her great-grandson Parker Alexander; and her best friend and soul sister, Penelope H. Houtz. Zita is also survived by her sisters, Aurora, Grecinda, Juana, Roberta, and Gloria; her brothers, Manuel and Johnny; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and her many dear friends.
