She was also preceded in death by her spouse and best friend, Austin Cobb; sisters, Laura (Basil) Hutton, Esta (Laffette) Parsons; brothers, Clair (Neva) Casto and Richard (Claris Ann) Casto; and a grandson, Jason Preece.She is survived by sons, Earnest (Sharla) Cobb of Hillsboro and Allen (Helen) Cobb of Amhurst, Ohio; daughter, Connie (John) Nagle of Ripley; sister, Mildred (Claude) Casto of Jane Lew. Also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.She enjoyed a full and active life with family, work, camping, hunting and fishing. She worked at all different types of work from janitor to construction laborer. She took pride in working on the Ritchie Bridge in Ravenswood and the widening of roads in Ripley along with working at Eldercare when it first opened.Family and friends were always welcome to come eat or just visit as she spent time in their camp in Pocahontas County.Her later years were spent with her new friends and family at Eldercare, where she called home.Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastor Adam Nester officiating. Burial will be in the Fairplain Cemetery near Ripley. | 1320 | Oreta M. Pitchford - Parkersburg News, The/Sentinel - (May/30/2006) Oreta Mae Pitchford, 87, of Vienna died May 29, 2006, at the Arbors in Marietta. Oreta was born Oct. 8, 1918, in Ripley, a daughter of the late Dr. Oshel C. and Ora C. Staats. Oreta graduated from Ripley High School and The Charleston School of Commerce. While she has not been active for many years, she was a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church in Vienna and before that, the Calvary United Methodist Church in Ripley. Survivors include one son, Stephen L. Pitchford and his wife, Ann, of Vienna; one grandson, Darren L. Pitchford of Parkersburg; one sister, Eileen Vickers of Raleigh, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Oreta was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell D. Pitchford, whom she married on Oct. 20, 1938; an infant daughter; and two brothers. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Fairplain Cemetery. Vail Funeral Home, Ripley, is in charge of arrangements. While Oreta enjoyed good health for most of her life, she did suffer from Alzheimer’s in her latter years. She was born on March 9, 1939, in Ripley, W.Va., a daughter of Homer and Vesta Robey Koon. Betty was a homemaker and a member of River Valley Community Church of Nazarene and Disabled American Veteran's Auxiliary. On Dec. 11, 1976, she married Roger Kuhn, who preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 2000. Betty is survived by three sons and three daughters, David Elswick of Vienna, Kenneth (Brooke) Nichols and Gary (Amy) Nichols, both of Parkersburg, Donna (Jerry) Owens of Little Hocking, Elizabeth Knighten of New Matamoras and Angela (Joel) Thompson of Parkersburg; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her brother, Larry Koon of Parkersburg; her sister, Wilma (Jim) Cuvelier of Stoutsville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Donald, Homer, Gary and Jerry Koon; and two sisters, Barbara Koon and Lita Kellar Nayedo. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home, Marietta, with burial at East Lawn Memorial Park.
