| 1655 | William Lee Trippett, 84, of Cedar Grove, Rt. 5, Parkersburg, died Monday, Nov. 17, at his residence after a brief illness. Born in Wirt County, he was a son of the late T. G. and Mary Jane Cox Trippett, and was a member of the Two Ripple Baptist Church. He was employed for 28 years at the Citizens Coal and Concrete Co. and prior to that position, with the Rig & Reel Co. He had spent the greater part of his life in Wirt and Wood Counties. He had retired in 1944. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Georgie Trippett; one son, William L. Trippett, of Baltimore, Md.; one daughter, Mrs. Garnet Wright, of Parkersburg; three step-sons, Coy, Sherman and Harry Sims; two brothers, Kelly Trippett, Parkersburg, and Rufus Trippett, Elizabeth; one sister, Mrs. Shelia Freeze, of California; 22 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Pearl Trippett; and by three brothers, Charles, Amos and Calvin. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at the Two Ripple Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Hutchinson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Staats Dies at Spencer Funeral Services Are Set For This Afternoon Practiced Here Dr. Charles Otmer Staats, 68, formerly of Charleston, who practiced for many years in Roane county, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ruth Coe at Spencer. He had been ill five years. Funeral services are to be held at two o'clock this afternoon at the Vandale funeral home at Spencer. The body is to be placed in the Spencer mausoleum. The Rev Otto Reeder is to officiate. Active pallbearers are to be J.M. Haper. P. H. Morford A. J. Heron, L. A. Douglas, T. R. Riddle and C. D. Springston. Honorary pallbearers are to be Dr. A. T. Staats, now of Charleston, founded the Roane County Hospital, now the City Hospital at Spencer. Dr. Staats was born near Ripley March 18, 1867 and began practicing at Spencer about 1902. From 1927 to 1930 he was a member of the staff of Staats Hospital in Charleston. He received his medical training at the University of Louisville, where he graduated with the degree of doctor of medicine, in 1893 and at Barn's Medical college at St. Louis. From 1893 to 1897 he practiced at Era, Ark., where he married Miss Teressa Sheppard in 1897. He practiced there until 1903 when he went to Spencer. Entering military service March 1918, Dr. Staats was commissioned Captain in the medical corps and served overseas with the 28th division at Chateau Thierry, Marne and Argonne. He was promoted to major and discharged from the Army June 20, 1919. He was a member of the Methodist Protestant church and the American Legion. Surviving are two daughters. It was the original purpose to include in this volume record of all the Rusts in the United States; but the data collected of Henry Rust and his descendants has grown to such proportions that the idea was a??andoned and only a synopsis can here be given. What may be called the Southern branch of the Rust family is quite numerous and from it have sprung several attaining national prominence. The compiler has made a careful and per??stent effort to collect and arrange the records of this branch, but it has been very unsatisfactory on account of the loss and destruction of both public and private records during the civil war, besides there is much less interest manifested by the Southern branch than by the descendants of Henry Rust. The earliest record of any Rusts in the South is revealed by two wills. One is the will of William Rust, made in Westmoreland county, Virginia, March 18, 1696-7; proved 28 July, 1697, witnessed by George Rust and others. Children named: William, Ann and Margaret. Probably Samuel, and George who witnessed the will, were also his children. His wife's name was Margaret. Another will was made in the same county by William Rust and bears date 1699. This was probably the son of the first William mentioned, and it is supposed he had a son John. It is thought possible that earlier records may exist in Northumberland county, an older county than Westmoreland. Doubtless the large majority of the numerous Rusts of the South are descended from this William, 1696-7, and many of the present generation have been traced directly to him; but in other lines links are wanting. The records that have been collected of this branch are valuable and would make quite a volume. | 1698 | Death came to two aged sisters this week, only a few hours apart, and when relatives left the burial service they had for one on Tuesday afternoon, they immediately began plans for the last rites for the other, which were held in an adjoining neighborhood Wednesday afternoon. The sisters were Mrs. Sidney Ann (FOGLESONG) BROTHERTON, 83, who died at her home near Given on Monday morning after a two year illness, and the other was Mrs. Minerva (FOGLESONG) GREEN, 85, of Ripley, who died at Huntington Tuesday morning. Burial services for Mrs. BROTHERTON were held Tuesday afternoon and interment was in the BROTHERTON cemetery near Given, and the services for Mrs. GREENE were held on Wednesday afternoon at Fairview and burial was in the cemetery there. Surviving Mrs. BROTHERTON are her husband, John W. BROTHERTON, of Given; three daughters, Mrs. Laura KESSEL and Mrs. Corda BUCKALEW, of Dunbar, 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Surviving Mrs. GREENE are two sons, Senator John H. GREENE, of Albany, Ohio, and a daughter, Mrs. E. L. HOGSETT, of Huntington. The two sisters are survived also by a brother, T. E. The Vail mortuary had charge of arrangements. Mr. LITTON, a farmer, was a native of the community, and had spent his life there. His wife, the former, Mary PRINGLE, preceded him in death. | 1700 | Mrs. Sidney Ann (FOGLESONG) BROTHERTON, a daughter of William and Mary FOGLESONG, was born in Jackson County on November 30, 1858, and died at her home near Given on October 18, 1942, aged 83 years, 10 months and 18 days. She was united in marriage to John William BROTHERTON on May 31, 1877, who still survives. Eight children were born to this union, four of whom preceded her in death, namely; Marley, Homer, Boyd, and one who died in infancy. Surviving are four children: Mrs. Lura KESSEL and Mrs. Corda BARNETT, of Given, WV.; Mrs. Orpha BUCKALEW, of Dunbar, WV., and one son, Worthy BROTHERTON, at home; also one brother, T. E.
